Software Resources for Girls "Software for girls? Why do girls need anything different?" Ever heard this comment before? It turns out that there are lots of good reasons, ranging from the fact that girls make up half the population, to studies that show girls' computer usage dropping off at the age where many software programs' main characters change from androgynous animals to mortal combat seeking, intergalactic space blasters.IGNITE
Women & Girls ProgramsIGNITE works closely with the Seattle School District encouraging high school girls to consider careers in technology. They do presentations at schools, field trips to local companies, and web design classes. IGNITE has sponsored their first ever 2-day career conference for Seattle high school girls in March 2002. IGNITE is a group of diverse women in the Seattle area, who have come together to volunteer for girls. IGNITE has been steadily building a success story in Seattle, WA by exposing teenage girls to the high-tech industry. Many people outside of Seattle who want to ignite a similar spark in their communities have approached us for help with starting IGNITE chapters.

Destination 2020
Women & Girls ProgramsThis is a highly interactive site (in English and French) that helps teenagers find what they are good at by imagining what a day in their life would look like in 2020. What skills will they have and how will they be using them? It teaches students that they have been developing a broad cross-section of life and work skills all their lives, through school, home and community activities. It was created to bolster self-esteem of youth, ages 11-18, with the recognition of the many skills they are acquiring now and how these skills will be useful in their future careers.
Purple Pyjamas
Women & Girls ProgramsCreated by 16-year-old Heidi Rogers and more than a dozen other mostly teenage grrlz, Cyber Grrlz accurately describes itself as "the e-zine for girls with brains and a sense of humor. The purpose of Purple Pyjamas is to provide an opportunity for young women to meet, discuss topics of interest to them, share ideas, and learn from each other. We are a community with a sense of comfort, privacy, and coziness where young women can relax and be themselves. The concept is to allow girls to contribute material to just about every page on the site, to engage in fun chat meetings, and to get as silly or as serious as they want in our discussion forums.
