Seniors and Adults with Disabilities
CTN is proud to be involved in the effort to bridge the digital divide among seniors and adults with disabilities in San Francisco through the Broadband Technology Opportunity Program (BTOP). The program is being led by the City's Department of Aging and Adult Services with funds from The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, which overall has allocated $7.2 billion to broadband adoption across the U.S.
Contracted by the Department of Aging and Adult Services until September 2013, CTN is playing a key role in the creation of 50 new computer centers located in senior centers, Adult Day Health Care centers, and low-income housing throughout San Francisco.
Among our many commitments, CTN will be recruiting 300 volunteers to work across the senior center locations, offering classes in basic computer and Internet skills as well as in more advanced topics, such as financial and health literacy, online communications, genealogy, and social media. During the course of the project, we aim to serve over 3,000 seniors and help many of those adopt broadband in their home.
We believe that seniors and adults with disabilities should not be excluded from the cost savings, knowledge, and fun the Internet brings. We hope you agree and can support our efforts in one of the following ways:
- Volunteer to help seniors explore the potential of the internet in their lives
- Donate money to support the recruitment and training of volunteers or the production of learning materials
- Sponsor a Senior Computer Lab!
- Promote the program by posting to your social networks
