The mission of CTN is to improve the effectiveness of participating community-based organizations that have technology access and training as a driving part of their mission, educational programs and client-centered services. The programs of these organizations include youth development, workforce development, community development, social justice, and technology training. Join the New Community Technology Meetup!

Meetup with other organizations in the Bay Area working in community technology. Each month we will tour a different organization and learn about their technology programs and what they are doing to provide digital opportunities for their community. We will share ideas, innovative curriculum and resources. Most importantly, we will begin to build networks to facilitate partnerships.

Curriki: The Global Education & Learning Community

Curriki is an ever-growing collection of free lessons, assessments, resources and textbooks. The resources have all been developed by members of the curriki community. In the near future you, as a member of Curriki, will be able to comment on and edit the materials you see. Web Building with Drupal

Drupal, a free open-source content management tool (CMS) that provides individuals and organizations a way to publish to the web and interact with their communities. In November 2006, CTN hosted a Drupal training-extreme makeover where several organizations were selected for a hands-on training with the outcome of a new website. We wanted to make the training something where participants walked away with something new which could propel their organizations.

WHAT IS DRUPAL?

From the Drupal website: "Drupal is software that allows an individual or a community of users to easily publish, manage and organize a great variety of content on a website." In fact this website, ctnbayarea.org, is Drupal-powered along with many of the sites you see linked in here such as NetSquared.org, cctpg.org, sdctc.org. Drupal functionality can be enhanced to manage constituents (CRM), provide e-commerce functionality, run grassroots campaigns, and more .

FREE WIFI NETWORKS

Use the following free wireless network sites to see if there is an available hotspot in your area:

AnchorFree - a user-run community that brings together over 10,000 free Wi-Fi hot spots globally. The online community consists of thousands of independent hot-spot networks that have united into one global alliance. The alliance is currently proliferated and powered by AnchorFree.

FON Network - FON is a Global Community of individuals who share WiFi.

SF LAN - SFLan is an experimental wireless community network in the San Francisco Bay Area

JiWIRE - Find WiFi hotspots anywhere in the world with JiWIRE which can locate up to 132,000 hotspots in 131 countries.
