Volunteer Orientation

November 15, 2010 - 6:00pm

Community Technology Network (CTN) is dedicated to teaching computer skills and granting access to communities who normally would not have opportunities to use computers or the Internet. Access may be something that we take for granted, but it is so important for fitting into our society today. If you're reading this post right now, you are accessing one of the many benefits of technology.

CTN supports training centers around the Bay Area with classes free to anyone who needs computer skills or training to access information, connect with friends and family, or extend opportunities for growth in their lives. When you volunteer with CTN, you are making a difference in somebody's life today. Did you know that a casual laborer can earn significantly more and have more power to choose how they work just by advertising services on Craigslist? Kyle, a CTN volunteer, has witnessed how learning to use this simple website has significantly and concretely improved the lives of people who would otherwise be struggling to make ends meet.

Volunteers are the backbone of our organization and we are committed to providing volunteers with the training and support they need to get the most out of volunteering, as well as opportunities to network, develop professionally, and enjoy being part of a social group of others interested in eliminating the digital divide and increasing access to technology and information for those who lack services.

Attend CTN's next orientation at 6:00 PM on November 15 at the Valencia Gardens Community Center at 390 Valencia Street in San Francisco to learn more about the digital inclusion movement and how you can help! Representatives of organizations working in the field of digital inclusion or technology access are also welcome to attend. Please send a message to volunteer@ctnbayarea.org if you would like to register: include “Registration November 15” in the subject line, and include your full name, preferred Email address, and a sentence or two summarizing your interest in this event in the body of your message.

Visit www.ctnbayarea.org today for more information about CTN, to register for our monthly electronic newsletter, or to make a valued contribution in support of CTN's work.
