CTN was formed on August 14, 2001 at a regional community technology meeting convened by CompuMentor under the auspices of the America Connects Consortium. A regional collaborative, CTN helps community technology practitioners leverage and improve their work products through peer feedback and support. In this shared space, practitioners develop work products, explore ideas, and directly disseminate resources to support community technology practices and services.
CTN is managed by a steering committee of seven individuals from throughout the Bay Area, from San Mateo to Contra Costa Counties. The Steering Committee provides sets the priorities, identifies the activities, and does most of the content related work of the CTN event. CompuMentor is the fiscal agent and convener of CTN, and provides staff support and administration. CTN now represents a large number of community organizations ranging from the Central Valley to Redding and to the Gold Country. CTN has successfully hosted numerous events, produced useful materials from and for these events, and has taken great strides towards producing best practices as defined and produced by community technology practitioners themselves. CTN focuses on needs and solutions as defined by its engaged and highly active membership.
